Vincent Van Gogh, Motivational Speaker (#154)

Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch painter who lived from 1853 to 1890. He worked with amazing speed — in a decade he created 2,100 works of art, including 860 oil paintings. At one point of time he was making a new painting every 36 hours! Although he only sold one painting while he was alive, several of his paintings have sold for over $100 Million in today’s dollars. Posthumously, Van Gogh became one of the most famous and influential figures in the history of art.

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience in Atlanta. It is one of five different Van Gogh experiences that are touring the world. Using a combination of paintings, interactive experiences, a 360º immersive video, and virtual reality glasses, the exhibit was amazingly well done, engaging, and provided lots of new information on Van Gogh the artist and his most famous works. If there is one of the experiences in your area I encourage you to attend.

Van Gogh, The Motivational Speaker

One thing I didn’t realize was that Van Gogh could have been a motivational speaker. The 360º immersive video uses Van Gogh’s quotes throughout the show. Most of the quotes are from the over 600 letters he wrote to his brother. Here are some of my favorite Van Gogh quotes:

  • What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?

  • Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.

  • The beginning is perhaps more difficult than anything else, but keep heart, it will turn out all right.

  • It is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is well done.

  • Your profession is not what brings home your weekly paycheck, your profession is what you're put here on earth to do, with such passion and such intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling.

  • In spite of everything, I shall rise again; I will take up my pencil, which I have forsaken in my great discouragement, and I will go on with my drawing.

  • Only when I fall do I get up again.

  • If you don’t have a dog--at least one--there is not necessarily anything wrong with you, but there may be something wrong with your life.

Conclusion

Go on the offensive in 2021 and use the quotes from Vincent Van Gogh, motivational speaker, to inspire you.
