Grow Your Grit -- Released! (#140)

Today, July 12, Grow Your Grit: Overcome Obstacles, Thrive, and Accomplish Your Goals is released. Thank you to everyone — the beta readers, my editor, Jera Publishing, and all the followers of the blog. It really takes a village and I couldn’t have gotten it done without everyone’s help.

The book is available to order via Amazon here. If you read it and like it, I’d appreciate a review on Amazon as well. If you want a signed copy send me an email.

I talked about 11 self-publishing lessons that I learned in Post #123. Here are three more self-publishing lessons:

  1. Index. There are several ways to put together an index for your book. Microsoft Word can do it automatically. Or you can hire a professional indexer to do it for you. I went with a professional indexer I found through the website Fiverr. A week of her work resulted in a professional index in the back of Grow Your Grit.

  2. Timing. If I had to do it over again, I would finish the book, put it on Amazon for pre-sale, and promote it for 90 days through webinars and podcasts. Instead, I was on a tight timeline. I managed to get the book up in all three formats — kindle, soft cover, and hard cover — two weeks prior to launch. This limited my ability to promote it before the release.

  3. Pre-Orders. I was able to have people do pre-orders of the book in both hard cover and kindle. I was also able to order a box of hardcover books from the printer and send out signed copies to beta readers and others who helped with the book before it released. In retrospect I should have ordered 100 hardcover copies rather than just 34. The challenges of committing capital to your business!

Over the past several months, I have given a half dozen talks to groups about how to grow their grit as individuals or as groups. Also, I have been interviewed on eight podcasts about the book. Click on any of the images and it will take you to the podcast.

Go on the offense and Grow Your Grit in 2021!
