Currahee Leadership Experience (#325)
Currahee!
Camp Toccoa, Georgia is where Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment (the airborne infantry company made famous by the book and mini-series Band of Brothers) conducted their training prior to deploying to Europe. The camp is next to Currahee Mountain, a 1,735-foot peak in Stephens County, Georgia. I talked extensively about Easy Company’s experience training at Camp Toccoa in the Easy Company Training blog post last year.
Not only was Toccoa an impactful site 80+ years ago for a group of 100 paratroopers, it is an impactful site today for corporate and government groups looking for a unique off-site experience. Two weeks ago, I had the privilege of working with a government group at the Currahee Mountain Leadership Experience. The group of 14 executives traveled to north Georgia where they spend 48 hours walking in the footsteps of where the Band of Brothers trained and did the famous “3 Miles Up and 3 Miles Down” Currahee Mountain. At the end of the event, the team had developed tighter bonds and had worked on improving their alignment as a group of leaders and understanding their competitive advantage.
Don’t take my word for it. Some of the participants said afterwards:
“History+immersion in the local setting as a team plus the discussions were great”
“I appreciated the intersection between history and leadership.”
“The hike up Currahee gave a lot of time to connect and discuss some of the topics David brought up.”
“Outdoor time to develop the team offsite and classroom time to solidify the lessons”
Conclusion
Does the Currahee Leadership Experience sound like something that your team could benefit from? TFCG offers this event in the spring, fall, and winter. Bring your team to northern Georgia for unforgettable off-site. Start the conversation today. Currahee!
